Sprains are a major cause of injury. This damage usually occurs when you bend or twist your ankle in an awkward way, causing the bands (more formally known as ligaments) that hold the bone to the muscle to break or tear.
Although these ligaments are quite flexible, this occurs when they are forced beyond their normal range of motion. Despite being quite common, they do not always heal well, so at Kam Clinic we recommend that, if our patients have a sprain, they try to rest for as many days as the doctor advises, as this is the only way for the ankle to heal completely without developing any problems in the future. It is also advisable to have rehabilitation to help the muscle regain the elasticity it has lost due to both the break and the weeks of complete rest. Always bearing in mind that when you return to work, especially those who are athletes, amateurs or professionals, do so gradually and with great care so as not to worsen your physical condition.
Above all, in order to prevent these injuries, our clinic recommends warming up before and after all sports sessions and never exceeding one’s own resistance.
