Clinic Kam is here to remind you about the different injuries that can emerge practising any sport and the best way of preventing them, paying special attention to those produced in the ankles and the wrist. It is very common for people to think that a previous warm up before starting practising is not needed.

The most important thing to take into account is doing a correct warm up and stretching. Some people think that because some sports do not require running or big resistance, a warm up is not important, but that is wrong. Every sport and practice need its exercise which can be done differently. If we do this, it will be least likely for us to have any problem in the future. This will help our body prepare for the physical resistance that will be required after. It may also be a good idea if there is a previous injury trying the use of a wristband or wearing an ankle brace to reinforce this part of our body, so it will not be worsened practising of any sport.

Due to the importance of these two parts of our body, ankle and wrist, we must pay special attention. Any injury in those parts ends up being very painful. Our Clinic is expert in treating this, do not hesitate and come to visit if you feel the need.

Ligaments are like a resistant fibrous cords in charge of connecting the bones and joints. They are one of the most important elements of the body because they make possible the mobility in some parts such as knee, shoulder and foot. Among other functions, they are responsible of keeping the bone in place in order to make everything work correctly. This is, mainly, due to the fact that ligaments are the ones giving our body the flexibility that it needs, but they also make the bones not to move in any weird way so they do not fracture. For this reason, injuries such as sprains and ligaments are connected between themselves.

Whereas, a sprain can be healed by resting and rehabilitation, fracture ligaments are  trickier. They might cause surgery, if they break and it takes up to eight weeks to be fully recovered. Even though, both injuries are very painful and bothersome, ligaments need more time to be completely healed. So, there are several things to take into consideration to prevent this from happening, but the first one is not to make any sudden movement that we know it will harm our body in any way. Some examples of what you should not do is exceeding your time of exercising without the previous warm up, making moves for which you are not prepared, etc.

The sprains in the ankles are one of the main reason injuries are created. This damage, generally, is produced when you twist or twirl your ankle in a rare position, which causes that the connection tissue from this part of the body, also known as ligament, breaks or tears up. These ligaments are very important due to the fact that are the ones in charge of the union between the muscle and the bone.

Even though, the tissue is very strong, if you force them above their average posture, they will break. Despite of being very common, normally they are very hard to heal. This is why Clinic Kam recommends our patients to be in complete rest if they are affected by this condition, always taking into account the recommendations of your doctors, but also considering the danger of this lesion without proper healing. If it does not get healed correctly, it may be worst in a future.

It is also recommended to have a well-prepared rehabilitation process in order to help the muscle acquire the elasticity lost with the injury and the resting. But it is always good to know that the ankle will take time to get used to have all the resistance that it had previously, so try not to overwork it, this advice is for everyone but especially for those that practice some type of sport professional or non-professionally. If you do not take this in mind, it will make your condition worsened and it will take more time to be cured. Furthermore, to prevent these injuries, our clinic recommends making a previous warming up before and after any sport sessions and never exceeding your own resistance.
