The importance of ligaments

Ligaments are like a resistant fibrous cords in charge of connecting the bones and joints. They are one of the most important elements of the body because they make possible the mobility in some parts such as knee, shoulder and foot. Among other functions, they are responsible of keeping the bone in place in order to make everything work correctly. This is, mainly, due to the fact that ligaments are the ones giving our body the flexibility that it needs, but they also make the bones not to move in any weird way so they do not fracture. For this reason, injuries such as sprains and ligaments are connected between themselves.
Whereas, a sprain can be healed by resting and rehabilitation, fracture ligaments are trickier. They might cause surgery, if they break and it takes up to eight weeks to be fully recovered. Even though, both injuries are very painful and bothersome, ligaments need more time to be completely healed. So, there are several things to take into consideration to prevent this from happening, but the first one is not to make any sudden movement that we know it will harm our body in any way. Some examples of what you should not do is exceeding your time of exercising without the previous warm up, making moves for which you are not prepared, etc.
